Enersion

Innovator

Enersion has developed a new synthetic refrigerant free cooling technology that uses heat to produce cooling instead of electricity as the main energy source. The technology uses plain water in a closed loop and incorporates nano-porous materials as a solid desiccant in an affordable mechanical design to provide emission-free cooling while reducing electricity consumption by up to 70%.

The company has participated in a TechEmerge pilot described below. More data on the pilot experience is available from the report "TechEmerge Sustainable Cooling Innovation Program: Results and Lessons Learned".

Solutions

0 GWP Cooling with 70% less
Enersion’s new cooling technology uses 70% less electricity and operates without synthetic refrigerants. It uses nano-porous materials in a cycle that is powered by low-grade heat instead of electricity to produce cooling. The refrigerant used is pure water in a closed loop. The cooling technology provides the same temperature output as a standard chiller. The chiller is reliable, with no corrosion or crystallization issues, and the design has been made affordable.

An economical green cooling technology with 70% electricity savings
This product is a chiller that provides cooling using low-grade heat. The heat is used to regenerate nano-porous material which creates a thermal compression that accelerates and sustains evaporation to produce cooling. This product embodies a complex thermodynamic process in a highly innovative and cost-effective mechanical design which provides sustainable and economical cooling for multiple applications.

An Innovative Active Cold Box
This product comes in the form of a portable box. A small cylinder gets ejected from the top middle portion of the box. This cylinder is a thermal battery and contains Enersion's innovative nano-porous material-based cooling technology. This cylinder is charged using electricity. Once charged for 2 hours, the cylinder is inserted into the box which has a side opening for loading items that need cooling. Once loaded, the cylinder can be activated and provides cooling for up to 6 days.
