Cooling for Animal Welfare

Apply

The productivity of livestock and yields of dairy, meat, and eggs are highly dependent on ambient temperatures. While most companies focus on the cold chains elements of transporting dairy, meat, and eggs, the welfare of animals inside their sheds has so far been a “blind spot” in agribusiness value chains. As global temperatures rise, agribusiness producers are already expecting yields and productivity to fall.  Although rudimentary technologies such as fans or misting are used to keep animals cool, agribusiness companies are seeking more effective active cooling technologies.

These sought-for cooling solutions are intended to improve animal health, comfort, and welfare; to improve work environment for farm staff in hot weather; and to improve feed efficiency, reproduction rates, performance and yields.

IFC is looking for innovators that can provide solutions to animal welfare, including passive and active cooling. The call for innovators will be implemented on a rolling basis as our network of adopters (see the following tab) expands through IFC’s ongoing client-focused efforts.

DISCLAIMER: These cooling demonstration projects will be scoped and implemented under IFC’s upstream and advisory services with our client adopters. Specific measures and technologies will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

IFC is currently working with a number of potential adopters who will be listed in this tab. The call for innovators will be implemented on a rolling basis as our network of adopters expands through IFC’s ongoing client-focused efforts.
